On Tuesday March 2nd 2010, Detroit 5th battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Bangor & Herbert. While companies were enroute central office advised they received update information that there were people trapped inside the dwelling and EMS was requested. Upon Engine 10's arrival they reported a dwelling going throughout and stretched on the dwelling. Crews made entry to the dwelling for fire attack and search and rescue operations. There were civilians out side the dwelling injured from exiting the building by jumping out windows. And also reports of additional people trapped. Crews preformed fire attack and search and rescue operations and on the primary search of the dwelling 3 children victims were located in the dwelling and removed. EMS/Squad 4 transported the victims and all 3 children were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. This fire was brought under control in aprox. 40 minutes. Engines 10/34/27/42 Ladder 22 Squad 4 and Chief 5 Car 203 Arson and EMS responded to this incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation but the cause appears to be a space heater/illegal electrical hook up.
