On Wednesday November 25th 2009, Detroit 1st Battalion companies responded to a report of a school on fire in the area of Canton & E Ferry. Upon arrival of Engine 23 they reported Heavy smoke showing and were stretching on a vacant 300X300 School going throughout and requested a 2nd Alarm. Upon further investigation Engine 23 requested a 3rd Alarm. Chief 1 arrived on the scene and assumed incident command an reported this fire would be a defensive fire. Chief 1 requested an additional platform to the scene. This fire was fought defensively using 2 Platforms and 2 Water Towers. with 5 Engines stretched. Engines 23/9/41/46/5/1/8/17/32/50 Ladders 10/16/20/6/7 Squads 3/2 Chiefs 1/5 Cars 203/200 responded to this incident, Companies operated for aprox 2 hours to bring this fire under control. With Relief companies ordered for extensive overhaul.
